Who Are We

My name is Andy Jones , owner of workandtravelabroad.com.  Naturally I have always considered myself as an adventurist with a entrepreneur mindset. Shortly after graduating culinary school in May of 2000 I worked as a Sous Chef at a four star restaurant in Fort Worth. After only six months of being ‘on the line’ I started to feel as if I were stuck in a kitchen all day and night without being around people. I figured out quickly that I needed a career where I got the opportunity to connect with new people as well as meet their needs. It was something I had a huge passion for so I started my own business as a personal chef. As a personal Chef I serviced families all over the DFW metroplex with providing them gourmet meals on a weekly basis. I have always had a passion for food as well but even though I was getting to work with individual families I still felt like I was stuck in the kitchen.  I needed a change.

I decided in October or 2010 that I was going to put down the knives and do some world traveling in hopes to truly find a career that gave me the passion, drive and motivation to fulfill my need as a person. I chose to travel to the Oceanic. I got the opportunity to spend six months touring throughout Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand. It was truly an amazing experience as I got to meet people from all over the world and learn about different cultures. I met so many people from many different countries.  I kept asking myself over and over, ‘Where are my fellow Americans’? After many nights of contemplating, doing lots of research and finding out that less than ten percent of Americans own a passport, that I wanted to change this epidemic and campaign for more Americans to travel.

Workandtravelabroad.com was founded on the principal of encouraging students and young adults to take a gap year to work, learn about different cultures while traveling abroad and be able to  have some of the great experiences that I did. We have partnered with Work and Travel Company Australia to provide people with jobs, in country contacts, emergency services, bank account assistance, and peace of mind while traveling.

Since workandtravelabroad.com was founded, I’m back working with people on a daily basis, sharing with them my experiences while providing them with the tools to travel and work abroad. Something I’m truly passionate about!
